The Ideal e-discovery Platform

How do you best approach a data set to respond to discovery?

e discovery resized 600The variety of data types and sources continues to grow, which causes rapidly growing volumes of unstructured data. Because of this, in legal discovery, it is more imperative than ever to find the best possible way to search a data set.

Keyword searching is the basic method of searching data. However, there are many problems with keyword searching. Some of these include: keyword searching will not find misspellings, multiple words have the same meaning, some words are the same but have different meanings, and searching names can be an extremely difficult task. These are all problems which directly affect the efficiency of the discovery process.

To better avoid these problems, attorneys tried different techniques of searching data. However, none of the methods they tried eliminated all the problems that keyword searching raised- except for analytic searching.

Analytic searching is a smarter, more advanced form of keyword searching. It is a way of finding/grouping documents based upon the content of the documents themselves not just on the keywords being used. Essentially this search technology coverts a document’s content into numeric values that allows the computer to compare different documents values in order to determine if they are similar or not.

The “ideal eDiscovery platform” is a single platform providing many different analytic tools that are used at various times through the cycle of a case. The ideal system would perform many different functions allowing collections, processing, and analysis of data no matter what the file type or format.
