Electronic Discovery Disasters: How To Avoid Them

Every legal team knows how vital it is to prepare for the unexpected. However, the most important lurking crisis to be ready for is burst capacity.

electronic discoveryWhile a legal team handles an average number of cases and an average number of data a day, sudden spikes in caseload or data volume do occur. Surprise litigation happens. There is a lot of work to do and a limited amount of time to do it in.

Are your eDiscovery tools scalable? Do you identify, collect, process, filter and then review all the critical electronically stored information in the most efficient way possible?

When you need to process and review more data in a limited amount of time, it is most important that you have a system in place.

Know Your Limits

Knowing your process works through testing it, and being able to comfortably understand your limits is extremely important. Don’t put yourself in a position where you must turn away business because you took on more work than you can handle.

Choose the Right Technology

Scalability in the eDiscovery product you invest in is crucial. Choosing a product that has a flexible architecture which gives it the ability to expand quickly and process massive amounts of data at unprecedented speeds will ease the pressure of a burst capacity disaster. The eDiscovery product you invest in should be able to cull down massive amounts of data, and deliver the most relevant data to legal teams and reviewers. Additionally, your eDiscovery product should be the easiest to use.  No one can afford to spend multiple days training on how to use a software.

Communication is key. Communicate with your client and keep them up to date on the process. This will make them aware of the fact that you are doing everything you can to meet their needs.
