Senior Systems Engineer

Position Description

Reporting to the VP of Technical Services, the primary role of the Senior Systems Engineer will be to provide technical pre- and post-sales support to Digital Reef’s customers.  The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for working closely with the sales and support teams to perform product and technology presentations to customers, for assisting customers in network design and incorporating Digital Reef products into the customer network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze customer requirements and provide technical knowledge, systems integration, and relationship management expertise as required to implement the appropriate solutions utilizing Digital Reef’s product solution
  • Perform field trials at customer sites as well as early testing on pre-release products
  • Support, coordinate and prioritize customer problem resolutions
  • Manage and report status of ongoing trials at customer sites
  • Provide pre-sales support to sales team focused on technical aspects, including consulting to potential customers on network topology and internal training
  • Create and deliver presentations to business executives, operations and technical staff and convince prospects of the business and technical merits of Digital Reef’s products
  • Develop technical proposals and respond to RFP’s and RFI’s in conjunction with the sales team, assuring they are technically accurate and professionally presented
  • Communicate requirements to product management by evaluating current and future business opportunities that relate to Company's products and solutions
  • Work to ensure 100% customer satisfaction with Digital Reef and our products

Experience & Skills Required

  • Proven ability to work with Enterprise and Service Provider customers
  • Proven ability to work in aggressive start-up environment, including a ‘whatever-it-takes’ self motivated attitude and work ethic
  • A strong technical background in internetworking and interoperability, including extensive experience with enterprise or data center networking topology and logical concepts
  • Extensive Linux experience including:
    • Linux Installation:
      • Independently source and install RPMs in support of Digital Reef software modules
      • Test, debug and publish procedures for installing Digital Reef system software on previously unsupported versions of Linux
    • Shell scripting:
      • Ability to write and test shell scripts to assist with tasks such as log file collection
      • Ability to read and debug existing shell scripts
    • Firewalling:
      • Experience configuring and debugging iptables firewalls
  • Extensive data storage experience:
    • Deep technical understanding of storage provisioning with NFS and CIFS
    • Proven experience with major storage and archiving products from established vendors
    • Operational experience managing storage arrays in an IT or vendor SE role
    • Operational experience migrating data from one storage array/protocol to another
  • Extensive eDiscovery experience:
    • Work experience at a eDiscovery Service Provider or eDiscovery software vendor
    • Complete understanding of the eDiscovery workflow, such as the EDRM
  • Enterprise and Service Provider networking experience including all of the following: Microsoft and Linux OS and servers, IP routing protocols,  DHCP/DNS, LDAP, Active Directory, Policy Management
  • Experience with network security functions such as certificate management in applications
  • Experience working with product marketing, support engineering and field customer support
  • International experience
  • 50% travel required


  • BS/BA, EE/CS or equivalent with 8+ years of System Engineering experience in related industry
  • Motivated self starter that is able to excel both individually and as part of a team
  • Strong technical background and knowledge of broad data management and networking technologies as described above
  • Successful track record as part of a sales team
  • Current pre-sales success and prospecting history with leading enterprise and/or service provider accounts
